Civic Surrey’s first walking tour and site meet up was a tremendous success. Between both events, 15 people showed up to explore downtown, connect with each other, and talk about the future of Surrey. These urbanists were from all corners of the City and all types of backgrounds. It certainly felt like the beginning of a budding community of engaged change makers.

One participant spoke to me afterwards about future plans for Civic Surrey – whether it would ever become more than just a blog. To that end, Civic Surrey’s evolving mission from this point on is to be a hub for urban community development.

This change will not occur immediately. It will be a slow and steady evolution as more of us connect and contribute to building this community. However, I am confident that Civic Surrey can be a catalyst towards this goal, whether online or off.
