Transportation dictates land use. Build roads, you get strip malls, cars, and obesity. Build transit, you get mixed-use livable, healthy communities. [via South Fraser OnTrax]
According to the City’s Engineering Dept. 10 Year Plan, Surrey will spend over half a billion years in the next decade on transportation infrastructure. Almost 90% of that money will be put into roads.
So much for “balanced” transportation.

I blame translink more then i blame surrey for this. Due to translink constantly putting other areas before Surrey we are pushed into driving. I mean Surrey is probably gonna be put last out of the three up coming routes still. They also canceled are much needed B-line. I think Surrey should step up and say enough is enough translink either you start serving us or we start are own system. we could probably get delta and Langley in on it too. maybe even push as far as abbotsford
The City’s Engineering Department, seriously has to get with the game. They seem to be off doing their own thing, and with antiquated ideas of how things should be done. They might mean well, they might think we need more roads, wider roads, because there is traffic congestion and thus demand. But its not the way to do things.
I have seen too many trees cut down just to widen a road
and seriously … cut a road through bear creek park!?
There 11,000 trees a year are cut down in Surrey! (re: recent Leader article; went to 4000 this year, but they expect that number to go back up when the economy picks up !!!)
