Car crash gives Watts new perspective

Mayor Dianne Watts is slowly recovering from internal rib injuries following a car crash last month. This week was her first return into the public light after the accident.

Vaughn Palmer reports that the crash has given her a new perspective on public life and her priorities. In an interview with CKNW, Watts said:

“Well, I’m gonna change the ways that I’ve been doing things. It’s a matter of, you know, shifting the way things have, sort of, snowballed. Being in public life there’s always something going, your time is never your own.”

Palmer believes this public address signals a shift in Watts’ political drive, meaning her rumoured jump to the Premier’s office may no longer be so certain.

In recent years, Watts has garnered a gracious reputation from the media, which began to propose that she take over the beleaguered BC Liberals as current part Leader and Premier Gordon Campbell continues to suffer in the polls. Up until late last year, Watts had said she intends to focus on her kids and her work in Surrey, but left the door open for a move up the political ladder.
