What’s going on in the Mayor’s Office?

Sam Kirk, from Langley Politics Dotcom, has revealed that Chris Gardner has left his post as Manager of Investment and Intergovernmental Relations for the City. Gardner received a fair bit of negative press after taking the position, as he was the campaign manager for both of Mayor Dianne Watts’ runs at the top job in Surrey. What is even more peculiar is how Gardner left his job in the private sector only six months ago to take up this position.

This follows on top of a recent job posting for Communications Manager for the Mayor’s Office. That job had only been filled last summer – again relatively recent turnover for such a high profile position.

It begs the question, what is going on in the Mayor’s Office? Has she decided to jump ship to provincial politics, causing a mass exodus before the announcement? Or has the run up to a provincial leadership campaign been stalled, leading major players like Gardner to go back to regular life?
