Two replacement bridges under construction

Two new bridges have just begun construction – both across the Serpentine River.

Motorists on Fraser Highway will be driving over the new crossing this fall, when it is scheduled to be completed. That southern bridge is part of the Fraser Highway expansion to 4 lanes, currently with major work remaining in the Serpentine Flats and in Green Timbers. Following the completion of this bridge, the existing crossing will be torn down and replacement will begin on the northern portion.

Another bridge along King George Highway is currently under construction and is also set for completion in the fall. 2 laned traffic will shift over to the new bridge. The old bridge, originally built in 1939 and at the end of it’s life, will eventually be removed and reconstructed as demand increases to expand King George to 4 lanes in the flats (expected to occur in about 5 years). The old bridge will be converted to pedestrian and cyclist use.
