The existing King George Highway crossing over the Serpentine River was built in 1939 and will soon be replaced. Construction is set to begin in July and be complete by October. Traffic will then shift to the new bridge, being built east of the existing infrastructure. The old bridge will be converted to pedestrian and cyclist only usage.
In about 5 years time, King George will be widened to a full four lanes and the old bridge will be torn down and replaced.
