Major Official Community Plan review
The Official Community Plan, or OCP, is the main planning document guiding the vision and development of the City over the next 30 years. The plan gets a minor updates each year, and a major review every 5 – the next one is scheduled for 2010.
The latest iteration of the OCP will have to incorporate almost a dozen new strategies recently developed by various governments, including the Sustainability Charter, the Transportation Strategic Plan, the Economic Development Strategy, and the Parks, Recreation and Culture Strategic Plan.
On the website, and in the ads for the review, the City poses four questions to get us thinking (and perhaps outlining the major aspects it plans to include in this update):
- How will Surrey respond to the challenges of climate change?
- How will we address jobs and housing for the 250,000 new residents expected over the next 30 years?
- What kind of transportation options does Surrey need?
- How will we protect and enhance our natural environment and green infrastructure?
The planning department is holding four initial open houses to gauge the public’s vision.
