SCC renewal underway

The left-wing Surrey Civic Coalition, which managed to elect Bob Bose to council and Laurie Larsen and Ijaz Chatha to school board in November, recently changed leadership at the top. At the SCC AGM, 22 year old polisci student Stephanie Ryan was elected president, and 32 year old Rina Gill was elected vice president. They both ran for council seats unsuccessfully in the 2008 civic election.

If you stay in touch with the local news, you’ll note that Ryan has recently kept a high profile, through letters to the editor and comments in news stories.

Expect the SCC to build its support base in the coming years and be a much more substantial opposition to Dianne Watts and Surrey First.

However, the question will remain, what is the threshold of support for the left wing SCC, and whether or not Surrey First will continue to attract the level of approval from the citizens it received in November.
